New artwork takes centre stage at Govett-Brewster Art Gallery

A piece in arguably New Plymouth's Govett-Brewster Art Gallery's most successful exhibition is sticking around for good after a year-long fundraising campaign.

Dr Brett Graham’s monumental sculpture, Cease Tide of Wrong-Doing, has been acquired by the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery and we are thrilled.

Standing nearly 10m tall and 3m wide, it was installed at the gallery in the highly acclaimed 2020 exhibition Tai Moana Tai Tangata. The work is valued at more than $500,000, but the Govett-Brewster Foundation was able to acquire it for $250,000 – and even though it’s half price, it’s the single biggest purchase in the history of the gallery.
